I was absolutely craving Thai food. The kind of craving that just takes over your taste buds and refuses to be ignored. And there was only one thing that would satisfy it – Pad Thai. Instead of scouring the internet for options, I immediately thought back to my last unforgettable experience with Thai food in Houston at Songkran Thai Kitchen in Uptown Park. It had been a couple of years since my last visit, but the memory of the mouth-watering flavors lingered on my tongue.
Songkran Thai Kitchen – Our Thai Food Houston Experience
Although I’m usually not one for reservations, I was feeling spontaneous and decided to take my furry friend Fluffy along for the ride. After all, who wants to miss out on a culinary adventure? We hopped into the car and made our way to the restaurant. After a few Houston driving minutes, we arrived at Uptown Park, and to my surprise, it was bustling with activity. But despite the crowds, there was ample parking available, although we had to walk a bit to reach the restaurant, or opt for valet.

As we arrived at Songkran, the aromas from the kitchen tantalized our senses, and our mouths began to water in anticipation. The restaurant was packed, both inside and out, but there were still a few seats available on the breathtakingly perfect outdoor patio. After waiting in line for around 5 minutes, we were greeted by a friendly hostess. I wish I had asked for her name because she was phenomenal. We threw her a curveball with our seating requirements, but she handled it like a pro, treating us exactly how I would expect my customers to be treated if this were my restaurant.

As it turned out, there were high tables available outside, but they weren’t suitable for Fluffy and me. The lower tables on the side patio were reserved, but only for a short while longer than our expected seating time. The hostess was determined to find us appropriate seating and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, assuring us that we could take our time.
Service and Food at Songkran
As soon as we were seated, our server brought us a refreshing glass of water and a bowl of water for Fluffy without even being asked. I was also offered mocktail options, and after requesting a Lychee Mocktini, I ordered the spring rolls and Pad Thai, along with a side of rice for Fluffy. Despite the bustling restaurant, the side of rice arrived promptly and earned Songkran extra points for its excellent service and attention to detail not only towards me, but towards Fluffy.
And the food? Let me tell you, it was top-notch. The spring rolls were crispy and every bite of the Pad Thai was superb. In fact, it was so delicious that I forgot to take a picture of it, but luckily I found one on their social media page for you to see. Mid-meal, my husband joined us and ordered the Thai Sesame, which our waiter described as the equivalent of an orange chicken, since it had a tangy tamarind glaze. It did not disappoint. It was crispy, tangy, and sweet, and I just had to steal a bite so I could describe it to you.
Overall, Songkran Thai Kitchen exceeded all expectations. From the exceptional service to the delectable food, it was an unforgettable experience. If you’re ever in the Houston Galleria area and craving some authentic Thai cuisine, I highly recommend you make a stop at Songkran. You won’t regret it. Maybe we’ll have dessert next time!
